Mexico, 2010 – Glass Bottle from a trip to build a house

Coca Cola logo on Mexican bottleRobb L has given me a few bottles and cans over the years. The first one he gave me was a 2010 bottle from Mexico.

He and his wife went to Ciudad Acuna with a church group to build a house for a needy family.  The spent the night in a church on the US-side of the border, and traveled to Mexico each day to work on the house.

Robb picked up this bottle of Coke for me, but after a hard day of house building, he got thirsty… so, he drank it. He thought that it was important to me to get full bottles, so took the bottle back to the church, got a can of Coke, and used it to fill up the bottle. He then stuck some random bottle cap on top. I don’t know what happened to the original bottle cap.

Mexico 2011 bottle (3) (Medium)This bottle is fully refundable, however, it does not list any nutritional information. From the imported bottles I can buy here, I know that Mexico uses cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

This particular bottle was made in 2008.  You can see from the wear on it that’s it’s been recycled a few times, but is still in good shape

Mexico 2011 bottle (2) (Medium)Along with bringing me the bottle, Robb shared with me his two biggest memories of his trip:

1. They stopped at a gas station, and he paid for something in dollars, and got peso’s back. The gas station was in Mexico, so that shouldn’t be a surprise, but it’s a memory he’s told me about numerous times.

2. They ate a good meal with the family whose house they built at the end of the week.
